Her grandmother was raised in the slums by her parents before she reached when she was 3 years old. Then she was adopted. Her adopted father, a Filipino-American with military background, was white, and American. She claims that she and her adopted brother were abused from when she was young up until the time she enlisted. Her family lived with her uncle living in San Francisco for several months before moving back to Texas on her 13th birthday because of the need of her father's bypass surgery. Her mother says that the physical abuse subsided after a few months, but she was still forced to suffer from psychological abuse by her father.
